Five great wines to serve on Thanksgiving

The holidays are here! With Thanksgiving just around the corner we can all start dreaming up who is coming over for dinner and who is making what.

To help you out, we have put together a list of five Mt. Vernon wines that would be great additions to your Thanksgiving dinner table.

2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is full of red fruit flavors and is tannic in nature. It is often considered a durable grape with thick skin that produces a mid-range of acidity. It can be high in alcohol content with a fruity and dry taste. This results in a reliable wine that mixes well with many dishes. A good, well-defined Cabernet Sauvignon should make a nice complement to your Thanksgiving dinner.

Our 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon features aromatics of cocoa and toasted oak rounded out by big tannins. It also has hints of juicy, dark black cherry and was American oak-aged for more than 16 months. $40 Per Bottle

2015 Estate Zinfandel

Zinfandel is typically high in sugar content, which translates to a higher alcohol content than seen in many other wines. The longer it is aged the more intense the trademark spice of a true Zinfandel becomes. You will find hints of pepper, cherry, blackberry and raspberry in Zinfandels. Maybe you are a Cabernet person or a Zinfandel person – either wine is going to complement your Thanksgiving meal well. If you lean more toward the turkey than the side dishes, Zinfandel may be the way to go as it is a wine that pairs well with meats.

Our 2015 Estate Zinfandel features juicy raspberry and stone fruits with zippy, bright acid and a robust, long and fruity finish. It was dry-farmed for more than 13 years. $30 Per Bottle

2013 Grenache

If you need a very finessed wine that isn’t overpowering, then you should grab a bottle of our 2013 Grenache. These grapes are from the famous Dick Cooper Vineyard in Amador County. It is elegant and soft, with a fruity finish that features flavors of strawberry and spice. It was barrel-fermented in once-used French oak barrels for 11 months. Oh, and it won a Silver Medal at the California State Fair. An absolute great addition to the table! $29 Per Bottle

Zinful (LATE HARVEST)

Maybe you just like all types wines and need a well-rounded blend to complement your Thanksgiving dinner.

Our Zinful late-harvest style, sweet red blend is 40 percent late-harvest Petite Syrah, 40 percent Estate Syrah and 20 percent Estate Zinfandel. It is a luscious and juicy wine. $28 Per Bottle

2006 Reserve Port

Dessert is a huge part of Thanksgiving. In fact, it could be the most important, right? Treat yourself to a port wine during dessert because that is what these wines are made for.

Our 2006 Reserve Port won a Silver Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle tasting. $38 Per Bottle
