Mt. Vernon Winery partners with doctor to fight breast cancer

Chances are that you or someone you know has or will battle breast cancer at some point. The numbers are staggering.

One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime and breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

At Mt. Vernon Winery, we are trying to do our part in supporting a worthy cause to help in the fight against breast cancer. We have been chosen by Dr. Ernie Bodai, CEO of Cure Breast Cancer Inc., to wear the “Breast Cancer Stamp” on our wine bottles. What this partnership means is that we have been granted permission to place the Global Journey label on two of our premium wines and have 12.5 percent of the proceeds from those bottles go toward finding a cure for breast cancer.

Cure Breast Cancer Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing breast health awareness and education to all women and their families. Dr. Bodai is a surgeon and a consultant. In a continuing effort to support research, he has led the all-volunteer, grassroots lobbying effort to create the Breast Cancer Research Postal Stamp. The money raised from the sale of the stamp is divided between the National Institutes of Health and the Defense Department’s Health Research Division, as called for by Congress.

Our two wines with the Global Journey label are the 2013 BCR Chardonnay, which features nuances like Granny Smith apple and orange peel with a bone dry finish, and our 2013 BCR Syrah, which is an easy-drinking wine that is soft on the palate with grapes grown at the 2,300-foot elevation mark. Find them here.

Despite winning more than 200 wine medals, many of which have been Gold, Double Gold and Best of Show, we are proudest of the fact that Dr. Bodai has chosen Mt. Vernon Winery to help in the fight against breast cancer.
