Polyphenol, found in wine, fruits and vegetables promotes good health

Do you know foods rich in polyphenols, which is found in fruits, vegetables and some beverages like red wine and coffee, contain beneficial health properties?

Scientists say the more color you include in your diet – the better. That’s because foods rich in polyphenol are typically the most colorful.

Foods like berries made a list of top 40 foods as the richest sources of polyphenols. And wine also made the cut, according to a study from the Appalachian State University.

The findings showing the benefits of polyphenol echo results from a 2011 study that show red wine can provide levels of polyphenol that support active lifecycles. Moderation is key, but the study showed that runners had less inflammation and episodes of respiratory illness after consuming drinks containing polyphenol (they removed the alcohol for this study).

And in yet another study examining the benefits of the Mediterranean Diet – which includes red wine – these benefits were also exhibited.

Furthermore, beverages rich in polyphenol helped improved the moods of participants within 30 minutes of doing exercise.

Cheers to a healthier lifestyle that leaves room for wine!
