California wine sales hitting all-time highs

Uncategorized 🕔August 21, 2016

Wine is good. California wine is really good, and the numbers back that up. Shipments of California wines hit a retail value of $31.9 billion in 2015 and the number of cases shipped from California reached an all-time high in 2015 (229 million cases shipped to the U.S.)

These figures are from the Wine Institute, a public policy advocacy association of California wineries. The Wine Institute also stated that total California wine sales to U.S. and to exports was a record 276 million cases in 2015.

“California wines continue to attract global recognition for their outstanding quality and value,” said Robert P. (Bobby) Koch, Wine Institute President and CEO in a press release. “Consumers are comfortable with wine, and well informed about it, which is translating to growing interest in California’s regions, American Viticultural Areas, sustainable winegrowing practices and how wine complements their lifestyles.”

At Mt. Vernon Winery, we are proud to be a part of the great tradition of California wines and enjoy serving those in the Auburn area and across Northern California. Mt. Vernon Winery has the capacity to de-stem and crush wine grapes at eight tons per hour and our holding tanks can store nearly 11,000 gallons of wine. The wine cave is currently storing more than 500 barrels of French and American oak aged wine.

The Mt. Vernon Winery tasting room is an old restored milk house originally built in 1950. Mt. Vernon Winery is committed to meticulous vineyard management resulting in a small but spectacular production of estate bottled wines. Many of these estate wines have won very prestigious medals (Gold & Above & 95 + Points) at three of the highest-ranked wine competitions in the world.

And please do feel free to come by and taste. Our tasting room is open Thursday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.!
